Yes. However, the surface must be in good condition for you to achieve quality results. These coatings are usually liquid or semi-solid formulations meant to protect your concrete surface from damage, giving it a cool visual appeal, and make it durable. So, the concrete coatings don’t work well on concrete surfaces that have huge cracks and depressions.

Besides cracks and depressions, it is also worth noting that your concrete surface must be adequately cured before coating. Concrete is porous by nature, meaning it absorbs and retains moisture, which causes damage later. On the other hand, concrete coatings are made from polymers, which are immiscible in water. Because of this property, it difficult for any concrete coating to stick to a moist concrete surface. That is why it is essential to ensure you only coat a concrete surface that is well cured. Concrete curing dries and strengthens it over time, thereby increasing its ability to resist moisture absorption.

The timelines for installing a concrete coating varies from one project to another. First, the size of the project matters. Is it a small residential house or an entire commercial warehouse? The second consideration is the status of the concrete surface you want to coat. A surface with many dents will undoubtedly take longer to coat than it would take an even surface. Also, the number of workers on the project and their experience in installing concrete coatings will determine the pace at which the project will move until it is complete. The more experienced they are, the quicker your project will run.

Yes. You can achieve any desired look with concrete coatings.

Semi-solid coatings can cause a buildup on concrete surfaces to reduce the rough texture of concrete. This applies to relatively rough surfaces and those with shallowly engraved patterns that you would want to eclipse and smoothen.

You can maintain or change the different textures, patterns, and colors of your concrete structures as well. This is possible because concrete coatings come in a variety of colors. Choose whichever color(s) you want for your interior floor, driveway, patio, and what have you. An experienced and highly skilled concrete coatings expert should be able to bring out the texture, patterns, and color effects you desire as the client.

A well maintained concrete surface can last for many years after coating. A concrete floor can last for a period in the array of 2 to 15 years before you do another coat. Some can last for even twenty years. But the durability of a concrete floor after applying a coating will be determined by a number of factors. Here they are:-

The number of undercoats: The number of undercoats you apply determines the thickness of the overall concrete coating applied on a surface. A single coat is less likely to last longer than three coatings, depending on its quality.

The amount of traffic: Too much movement on a concrete surface wears out the coating much faster due to friction.

Surface maintenance: Failure to perform simple routine maintenance like cleaning a concrete surface contributes to its wear. Accumulation of dust increases surface wear under increased traffic.

Product quality: Some concrete coatings are durable than others because there are hundreds of formulations on the market from different manufacturers.

It is not unusual for cracks to emerge in a concrete structure, even in the best concrete structure designs you may come across. Concrete cracks may occur before hardening as a result of shrinkage or movements during construction. Cracks may also occur after hardening due to accidents, chemical reactions, physical pressure on the surface, and environmental thermal variations.

The proportions of the materials used in making the concrete also matter. If the ratio of aggregate, cement, and water does not conform to industry standards, then expect cracks in your concrete structure. Too much cement in concrete is a recipe for cracks. Also, water is known to cause cracks in concrete. Water occupies space between the particles that form concrete. When the water quickly gets a way out of the concrete, it leaves the spaces empty. Then concrete becomes weak as a result of the empty spaces. These make the concrete more susceptible to cracking when there’s too much heat or overloading on the top.

The best way to address cracks in concrete is by minimizing their likelihood to occur. It should start right from the installation stage. Get the proportions of the materials right. Secondly, ensure proper and adequate curing after installing your concrete structure. Once the curing process is over, allow the structure enough time before any movement starts on it. Otherwise, cracks are probable to appear in the structure due to stress soon after installation.

We fill in cracks using crack filler after we grind the floor. Applying concrete coatings like epoxy over crack filler works fine and you won’t see any of the imperfections in the existing floor as long as you are using a 3 part epoxy system.

Concrete resurfacing is the fixing of a damaged or outmoded concrete structure to make it look new. Resurfacing fixes cracks, fading, dated finishes, and more. Minor shrinkage and cracks can be addressed by applying a concrete coating. If the cracks are large, then consider comprehensive resurfacing, which requires an overlay.

The structure might be in good condition and only needs a revamp to improve its appearance. In this case, engraving or staining would be enough to achieve the desired outcome. For a significant facelift, the process is more demanding and requires adequate surface preparation for the overlay to firmly bond with the damaged concrete. Be it a minor or major concrete resurfacing task, you need an expert in that area to help you out.

Concrete staining is the process of changing the color of the concrete to improve its aesthetic appeal using a chemical known as a stain. Concrete stains come in a variety of colors and react with the chemical composition in cement to change the colour of concrete. Most concrete stains are acidic and hence can penetrate and soak deeper into concrete to bring about the beautiful patterns a homeowner may want.

It is important to note that concrete staining is permanent. Once the stain sinks into your concrete, there is no going back. That is reason enough to engage the professional concrete staining expert’s services if you desire to have your concrete stained perfectly. Staining lasts for a lifetime and is ideal for both indoor and outdoor concrete structures. For outdoor concrete staining, you need an outdoor concrete stain that is resistant to fading. You should also note that high-traffic wears stained concrete over time.

Polished concrete is concrete that is grinded down extremely fine and then buffed out. It takes grinding the concrete several times with different levels of diamond blades to make a beautifully polished concrete floors. Today, many high-ended residences and showrooms are decked with polished concrete floors because of the value they come with.

There are different ways of polishing concrete. For instance, you can use a grind and seal method. This isn’t a true polished concrete, it’s a grind with an overlayment that makes the concrete shine and looks very similar to polished concrete.  The grind and seal method involves the use of a chemical hardener. Then grinding is done to achieve the sought after smoothness and luster.
